Sharp senses towards ‘words’ and deep insight into people and life are cultivated by directing a critical eye towards the way of life, the social context and culture of the characters that appear in stories and novels. All these aspects are common denominators in literature, be it classical, contemporary, Japanese or Chinese. You will study literature and culture from various angles in accordance with your interest and objectives. The sensibility and perception that you will attain in four years are sure to be of use in any area of society.
Department of English Language and Literature
Cultivate practical English skills to become a person who will be active in the international community.
Based on the education of providing training for acquiring a fluent command of English appropriate for the global society, we have an excellent learning environment in which the English language is taught by native English-speaking instructors. The curriculum is unique in that it offers you the opportunity to gradually and technically study the areas of your interest, i.e., literature, theatre, motion pictures, philosophy, linguistic expression and translation, according to your English skills. We aim to cultivate internationally-minded people who have sophisticated English skills, perception and flexibility, and who can think and speak for themselves.
Department of Library and Information Science
Become a specialist who is active in various areas who can utilize information.
This department is one of the rarest places in Japan where an extensive range of fields related to information is covered. As well as deepening the understanding about the work and role of a library, you will study the series of processes from when information is created to when it is used, i.e., the generation, gathering, accumulation and searching of information and the designing and building of information systems, and information service through exercises and training. What we seek is how to maximize information and make it useful from the standpoint of the user. We aim to turn out information specialists who can play an active role as librarian, curator or system engineer.

In order to train teachers who can teach children the fun of learning and bring out their curiosity, we have a unique curriculum, which maximizes the characteristics that can only be found in a university.
Through learning that provides a good balance between practice and theory, you will aim to become an educator with a rich sense of humanity who can communicate with all manners of people, while acquiring a deep insight and a flexible mind to capture the changes of the times and the nature of children.
