In the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, Japanese is studied systematically, with a focus on classical, early-modern, and contemporary Japanese literature, as well as Japanese linguistics and Chinese literature. Through devoted research in specialized fields, students are able to cultivate their intellect, sensibility, and creativity based on their cognitive skills, judgment, and critical analysis. Students master a broad range of topics and deep specialization with an eye to the continuity and development of traditions, so they can make a fuller contribution to society.
In the Department of English Language and Literature, students study a variety of cultures in the British and American spheres of influence. Through the mastery of the four skills of “reading”, “listening”, “writing”, and “speaking”, students enhance their ability to communicate in English in a way appropriate for the global community. With many faculty who are native speakers of English providing instruction in a small-class format, the Department provides thorough training in “living English” so students acquire the English skills necessary to communicate in the international community while gaining a high level of cultivation.
The Department of Education aims to cultivate educators who will open up the future for the children they teach. Courses are focused on elementary school education, special school education, and lifelong learning education. Students master leadership skills and professional knowledge, developing rich human qualities while fostering deep insight for discerning the nature of children and flexibility of thought through actual experience.
