Department of Media Theories and Production
This domain includes a wide range of studies through three courses: Creative Writing with a focus on language media, Media Representation with a focus on visual media, and Urban Architectural Design with a focus on spatial media. Before being sent into the media industry, students are equipped with creative skills, a broad education with a specialization, and practical abilities to meet the needs of the times.
Creative Writing Course
This course specializes in creative activities based on lingual media. Students learn appropriate styles of writing based on literature and Japanese linguistics. The purpose of this course is to train human resources that have advanced knowledge related to creative expressive activities and pragmatic expression techniques. The writing ability, composition ability, and editing know-how that students acquire in 4 years in this department will prove useful when they take a job as novelist, poet, haiku/tanka writer, editor and article writer, and also will be helpful when they are in a position of planning in the field of media.
Media Representation Course
This course specializes in the field of visual media. Students learn not only a wide range of methods of visual expression, but also develop their planning and conceptual abilities, as well as a high level of presentation ability. Possible areas of employment that students can pursue after graduating from ASU are: experts in animation, comic writer, media contents business, broadcasting industry, culture-related business, mass media, advertising. Additionally, they can use their knowledge for planning and the PR functions of corporations, public and educational organizations and NPOs, all of which need personnel, who can plan strategically utilizing various kinds of media.
Urban Architectural Design Course
This course focuses primarily on the specialized creative activities spatial design media required by architecture and the urban environment. Students not only study the social role of architecture and architecture design theory, but also acquire practical skills through drills using CAD. Possible areas of employment after graduation are the field of housing and architecture and also urban development, but, if they have actual work experience in a design office or building corporation for two years after obtaining the necessary credits in university, they become qualified to take the examination for the license of first-class architect, which will open up many opportunities for them to work as an architect.
