Faculty of PsychologyWith four domains of study as pillars, students seek out a broader sense of what it means to be “human”. Department of Psychology
Physiological and Cognitive Psychology DomainMeasuring the invisible workings of the human mind and developing the ability to think scientifically. The domain of Physiology and Cognition approaches the human mind through scientific evidence based on brainwave measurement and other experiments. Research topics in this domain explain the mechanisms by which humans recognize objects. Hypotheses are formulated and then various experimental methods are employed to demonstrate their validity to find the invisible workings of the human mind. Social Psychology DomainIn this domain, the clarification and application of the mental mechanisms, which bind people together, are considered. The “Social Domain” investigates the behavior of “the human being in society”. These behaviors include one-to-one interpersonal relationships, problems that arise within groups of people or within communities, and then, through investigation and experiments approaches the causes and processes involved. Not only are the typical problems of modern society considered, but also, those phenomena of daily life, which are often overlooked, are the focus of this domain. Developmental Psychology DomainIn this domain we study the lifelong changes of the human mind and try to find out how to contribute to an aging society, that has fewer children. The Developmental Domain inquires into the changes of cognition and emotion, which occur over the span of a human being’s life, and, of course, covers the developmental processes from childhood to adulthood, including from adolescence to adulthood and old age. Students conduct experiments and investigations by interacting directly with infants in kindergartens, with specially-challenged children and adults in social welfare facilities and with the elderly in nursing homes. Clinical Psychology DomainThis domain lays the foundation for becoming professional clinical psychologists, whose job is to support people dealing with mental concerns. In this connection, the “Clinical Domain” allows students to develop their abilities to support people by looking deeply into their minds. Students can observe, first hand, various approaches that are actually used in real clinical practice on people who suffer emotional pain. For those students who want to acquire the qualification of “Clinical Psychologist,” they will be able to apply their knowledge as the foundation for further study in graduate school. |
