About ASU

Aichi Shukutoku University opened in 1975 as a women's university, with just one faculty consisting of two departments: Japanese Language and Literature, and English Language and Literature. In 1995, 20 years after the university's establishment, it became co-educational which on the basis of the philosophy, "living with diversity," admits international students as well as students ranging widely in age.
As of April 2017, there are about 9000 students studying in the university's 9 faculties, 5 graduate schools and the Center for Japanese Language and Culture. Learn more about the University.

Center for International Programs

The Center for International Programs offers a variety of international exchange programs, including receiving of foreign exchange students from abroad and sending of Japanese exchange students abroad, providing short-term overseas study programs.

Location and Environment

Aichi Shukutoku University has two campuses:

  • the Hoshigaoka campus in Nagoya
  • the Nagakute campus adjacent to Nagoya

Nagoya, the prefectural capital of Aichi, is located in the heartland of Japan. Nagoya is less than two hours away from Japan’s two great megacities, Tokyo and Osaka, via the Shinkansen bullet train.
Nagoya is also a gateway to various places in Central Japan. The famous sightseeing spots such as Hida Takayama in Gifu and Ise Shrine in Mie are easily accessible from Nagoya station.
The Four-Week Summer Program is held at Nagakute campus.
