a(Reading) Readings will be from a wide range of topics and will vary in length and degree of diffculty. Students will develop not only their reading comprehension, but their ability to express their thoughts through writing reviews and retelling stories.
b(Listening comprehension) This course focuses on current issues, both within Japan and the wider world through the news, tv programs, news papers, and magazines. Through class discussions, students will develop a greater ability to understand issues in Japanese and express their opinion in the target language.
Elective Classes Japanese Culture Ⅰ・Ⅱ The focus of this class is on learning not only traditional Japanese culture, but also experiencing modern Japan as well. This is an experiential learning class.
Flower Arrangement This is a cultural course that offers students the opportunity to study“Kado”, a traditional Japanese artform. Through the study of flower arrangment, particularly of seasonal flowers, the students will study the particular importance of seasons in Japan.
Calligraphy This course focuses on the traditional artform of Shodo, or Japanese calligraphy. Through practical experiences of learning how to prepare the ink, drawing lines, learning to write Hirgana and Kanji, the students will learn form and brush stroke order. Additionally there will be other projects related to word art and stone carving.
