Accepting Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship students

Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship students: A definition

Government-sponsored international students are foreign students who are studying in Japan on scholarships funded by the Japanese government (specifically, by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). The Japanese Studies Program offered by the University's Center for Japanese Language and Culture accepts students who wish to study as a Japanese studies student.

Applying for acceptance as a government-sponsored international student

There are two methods by which students living overseas who wish to study in Japan may apply to do so: embassy recommendation and university recommendation.

Embassy recommendation Japanese embassies overseas (in some countries, consulates) solicit applications and select students. Since application methods and deadlines vary by country, please contact the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country for more information.
University recommendation Exchange students accepted by the University in accordance with the student exchange agreements are recommended to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as government-sponsored international students.

For more information about how to apply under the government-sponsored international student program, please refer to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's website.
