Honmaru Palace

The Honmaru palace was build in 1615 and it was used as residence for Daimyo and later as a lodging house. In 1945 the Honmaru palace as well as the donjon of Nagoya castle burned down. Luckily many pictures of the palace from the Edo era were left and so it was posible in 2009 to begin rebuilding it.

Nagoya Castle

The donjon is open to public with many things to be seen. The exhibitions differ depending on the floor you are on.
On the first floor we can see the original coloured walls that were once in th honmaru palace. A great display of katanas is also there.
On the third floor they show us the daily life of the lords and samurai. We can also learn a lot from the small castle town constructed there.
On the fourth floor we can see weapons displayed. But also the golden dolphin is there so feel free to take a picture with it or you could try to pull a boulder with rope like in the olden times. On this floor, the history of Nagoya castle and the life of Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu is depicted. There is great view from the seventh floor.
