Festival of the Centre of Japan
Time: 29th of August ~ 31st of August Place: Around Sakae Station. About the festival: University students and kids singing and dancing. There are seats, but it`s not free. History: During the summer of `96, Nagoya students who participated in the Hokkaido Festival have asked “We want to make a festival that conveys emotions through dancing in Nagoya as well! We want to transmit this emotion through Nagoya!”, and 3 years later, in the summer of ’99, “にっぽんど真ん中祭り”(abbreviated どまつり) was born.
Nagoya Festival
Time： 17th of October ~ 19th of October Place: Many Places in Nagoya (Nagoya Station, Sakae) About the Festival: Many parades are held, live performances are held by shops. The festival`s main parade is the one where Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, the famous Shoguns from the Sengoku Period, march accompanied by 600 people more or less. Enjoy the Festival that colours the center of Nagoya in Autumn. History: The Nagoya Festival started in 1955 and its Nagoya`s greatest Festival.
Naked Festival
Date: 3rd of March Place: Kounomiya About the Festival: Men who participate in this festival, mostly naked, have to catch a man who`s called “divinity man”, and it is said that bad things won`t happen to those who touch him. Furthermore, people pull the so-called “sasa” into the shrine. History: This festival it`s very old. It started in 767.
Fireworks Celebration
When: During summer (in Nagoya its during the “day of the sea”) Place: Throughout Japan About the Festival: It`s the biggest fireworks festival, taking place all over Japan during summer time. There`s the calendar of fireworks events on the 花火大会 website. History: Since a long time, it’s a fireworks festival well known all over the world.
Festival of Seto`s Products
When: 13th to 14th September, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Place: on Seto river and Seto Kuraoku open plaza About the festival： there are many shops selling many different kinds of products History: the Seto products have a vary long history and therefore they`re famous world wide.
Festival of the “Beaconing Cat”
When: 13th of September (sunday) - 29th of September (Monday) 9:29 to 17:29 Where: Okage Yokocho About the festival: The main event consists in gathering all the 招き猫 (beaconing cat) and show gratitude to them on the 29th of September. Other than that, there are many events concerning cats. History: This festival has a 20 years old history, and people from all over the country participates.
