Use language to deepen understanding of culture and local communities

Develop practical language application skills by immersing yourself in one of three concentrations that explore the rich culture, history, and thought behind the English, Chinese, and Korean languages. As you deepen your understanding of each language, you will also study regional and global communities through the lens of intercultural exchange, helping you develop the global mindset and attitude to thrive in international society. The curriculum features many hands-on practicums alongside lectures. By combining your studies with courses from the Major of Hospitality and Tourism Management and the Faculty of Business, you will build upon your linguistic foundation with business knowledge, gaining the skills to contribute to regional development.

Your Four-Year Journey (Plan for 2026 Academic Year)

  • 1st year

    Discover Your Passion and Potential

    This is a year to grasp the fundamentals of linguistics and discover the breadth and depth of the Major of Language Studies. Beyond reading and conversation, you will be exposed to learning that transcends language, including communication, international exchange, and culture and philosophy.

  • 2nd / 3rd year

    Deepen Your Expertise in a Specialized Seminar

    Your specialized seminar begins. You will deepen your expert knowledge while tailoring your studies to your unique interests and goals. Through experiential, off-campus courses, you will develop practical abilities and sharpen the skills required in professional fields.

  • 4th year

    Showcase Your Accomplishments with a Graduation Project

    Based on three years of learning, you will define a specific research theme. You will pursue answers through literature reviews, fieldwork, and surveys, compiling the results of your four-year journey into a final graduation research project.

  • Education for International Understanding

    This course explores the field of Education for International Understanding. Students will examine key topics including the adoption of ideas from advanced nations during Japan's modernization, global economic disparities, the internationalization of contemporary Japan, the education of returnee children, and support systems for international students.

  • Korean Language Translation

    Designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals, this course trains the next generation of Korean audiovisual translators. Through practical, workshop-style exercises, students master the fundamental techniques essential for success in the industry.

  • Practical Chinese Tour Guiding

    Learn the essential Chinese expressions for guiding tourists through in-class instruction, then apply your skills in the real world by conducting tours for actual Chinese tourists on-site. This approach refines both your language proficiency and your public communication skills.
