International Student Support

Aichi Shukutoku University (ASU) offers a wide range of programs and dedicated support services to help international students thrive both academically and personally during their time in Japan.

Center for International Programs & International Exchange Plaza

The Center for International Programs oversees exchange initiatives with partner schools, plans and administers various study abroad programs, and supports the admission and integration of international students. Adjacent to the Center is the International Exchange Plaza—a vibrant space used by both international and ASU students. It houses materials from partner universities, as well as resources and textbooks for studying abroad and language learning.

Support Staff and Services

ASU students volunteer as Resident Assistants (RAs) and buddies in the iHouse international dormitory, helping international students settle comfortably into life in Japan. Within the Global Lounge, Student Assistants (SAs) provide assistance to create a welcoming atmosphere and promote intercultural exchange.

Resident Assistants (RAs)

RAs are ASU students who live in iHouse and help ensure a smooth daily life for international residents. They offer a listening ear and practical advice for personal or everyday problems.

  • RAs help international students adjust to their new environment and community.
  • RAs also organize a variety of events to help build connections with international students living in iHouse.

ASU Buddy Program

Through the Center for International Programs, ASU offers a Buddy Program in which Japanese students support international students before and after arrival. Before arrival, buddies can answer questions about daily life in Japan, and for about a month after arrival, they assist with things like shopping and other everyday matters.

Student Assistants (SAs)

Student assistants are part-time staff stationed in the Global Lounge on the 4th floor of Building 1 at the Hoshigaoka Campus. hey provide support to ensure the lounge is welcoming and comfortable for all users, help facilitate interaction between ASU students and international students, and plan and run regular events held in the Global Lounge.

International Student Dormitory (iHouse)

The International Student Dormitory, known as “iHouse,” is a three-story facility located on the Nagakute Campus that serves both as a residence for international students and as a venue for training activities. The first floor contains seminar rooms, a kitchen, and a traditional Japanese-style room, while the second and third floors house international students. In addition to the international residents, several Japanese student Resident Assistants (RAs) and a live-in caretaker also reside in the building. Together with staff from the Center for Intermational Programs, they provide support for international students.

A free university shuttle bus service is available for commuting to the Hoshigaoka Campus.

Global Lounge

Thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and the support of student assistants, the Global Lounge offers many opportunities for meaningful interaction between ASU’s local and international students.

Center for Japanese Language and Culture (Japanese Studies Program)

Since its establishment in 1992, ASU’s Center for Japanese Language and Culture (Japanese Studies Program) has welcomed international stussdents from a wide range of countries and regions.
In addition to finely tailored classes that meet individual student needs, the program includes many courses where international students study alongside Japanese students. Through these diverse learning experiences, participants deepen their knowledge of the Japanese language and culture.
